Barracuda Spam Firewall is Online

We are proud to announce that we will be implementing new spam prevention technology on April 29. The new service provides more accurate filtering-- giving you greater control over what ultimately gets delivered to your mailbox. The first time the new spam prevention service detects a message and classifies it as spam, it will send you a welcome e-mail. The e-mail will include a username and password for logging into the new service as well as a web link to direct you to your spam quarantine box. From your spam quarantine box you have the option to deliver the message, whitelist the sender and/or classify the message as not spam. You will also find a preferences tab at the top of the page which will allow you to override the system defaults and adjust the spam filter to your individual preferences. To avoid any interruption in your e-mail delivery, we have imported whitelists from our current spam filtering software. We have also increased the quarantine box message retention time to 30 days, to provide more time to check for messages that may have been incorrectly placed in quarantine. We have attached documentation detailing how to use the quarantine box and modify the preferences.

If you have any questions regarding the new spam prevention technology, please e-mail us at support@scattercreek.com or call 360-673-2978 (Cowlitz County), 360-264-6300 (Thurston County).

Spam Filter Enhancements

E-mail spam is a problem for anyone with an e-mail address. Internet Service Provider’s and their customers are forced to combat this problem every day. Today, roughly 90% of all Internet e-mail is spam and sorting out the correct 10% continues to be an increasingly difficult and expensive process. For example, on March 19th we received 254,248 messages, of which, 226,712 were identified as spam. As you can imagine, sorting through this quantity of messages daily can keep our e-mail servers busy. Unfortunately, spammers continue to find more and more ways to prevent automated systems from filtering out their messages and the number of spam messages continues to grow. Today, Scatter Creek InfoNet is working on a solution to better combat e-mail spam. Our goals are to: • Enhance our e-mail servers’ performance to allow it to handle the ever increasing amount of spam • Provide more accurate detection of spam • Give you-our customers-control over your spam filtering, allowing you to customize your settings to your own preferences In the coming weeks we will be announcing a new spam filtering system. We look forward to this change and hope it will make your internet experience more enjoyable.
