Ever since I moved to the Northwest many years ago, I’ve had one foot in the city and the other on maybe another planet. (I’m Lew, the verbal partner; Jim is the mechanical one, the one who’s going to keep our house from plunging over the cliff.) In view of this conflict between urbanity and space, life in Kalama has seemed a workable compromise, at least so far. Which doesn’t mean, the view and the peace not withstanding, that things are as good as they can get.

If you have read this far, you may want to know the intent behind this rather self-focused message. Okay, we are seeking imaginative newcomers to the Kalama scene. What is an imaginative newcomer? Let’s say anyone who has strolled on the streets of Kalama for between one week and fifty years. Anyone who rejoices in the pleasures of the little, big skied town, yet believes that the area might have more to offer and would like to be part of a plan or plans to expand life here.

In the foreseeable future, a municipal opera may be a bit unrealistic. But how about a bookstore, appearances of a jazz group, an art studio - what hopes do you have to add to the list?

For the moment, just getting together and discussing our needs and wishes might be helpful. Want to give it a try?
