Many on-line florists and most national 1-800 type florists are "virtual florists". They have only telephone locations and no real floral shops.
Although the prices they may quote seem lower than a local florist gives you, the extra charges can greatly decrease the quantity of product delivered to the recipient. The service may charge as much as $25.00 and then comes the standard $5.00 wire fee. That's $30.00 already spent and there aren't even any flowers yet.
Nearly all florists charge a small delivery fee, so that's also added into the cost of your selection. Still no flowers.
If you want to spend $50.00 on your sister's birthday flowers and you call a virtual florist, you might get as much as fifteen to twenty dollars worth of flowers delivered to her door. With a real, local florist, the value delivered will be as much as $40.00 to $45.00! And more money is going into the local economy and supporting small business.
